Performance and usage monitoring

Performance and usage monitoring is monitoring the state changes and throughput of each printer, and storing this information for analysis. It allows you to ...

Motivation

Increased availability

The time taken for users to notice and report hardware faults reduces the overall availability of that hardware. The faster you react to these faults the more time you save and the higher the user confidence in that hardware.

Targetted resource

By monitoring and analysing printer usage you can make informed and validated decisions about resources. This could involve adding or moving hardware or reallocating it according to need. You could also identify patterns that allow you to fulfil hardware needs by short term leases to reduce excess capacity.

True cost of ownership analysis

The true cost of a printer device is made up of the initial running costs plus the cost of consumables and the cost of maintenance. By monitoring printer usage you can calculate the true cost of ownership of each printer and shift load from the most expensive to the least expensive.

System overview

Pinter monitoring

Each printer will need to be monitored, both in terms of print jobs and in terms of printer status changes.

Event recording

The information about each of these events will need to be stored in an appropriate database system.
