The first step is to install the PUMA manager application on a server that has SQL Server 2000 (or MSDE) installed on it. In the diagram this is illustrated as a seperate server but this could be installed on one of your printer servers.
To do this run the setup program (Setup.exe) from here:
This will create the printer monitoring database and create a root directory called Merrion Computing Ltd\PUMA Manager. Within this directory it will also create two subdirectories, Service Installation and Viewer Installation. These directories should be shared so that other machines on the network can have read access to them.
To select the servers and printers you want to monitor, start the PUMA Manager and right-click on the panel marked Print Servers. From the resulting context menu select Add
Select the server name from the dialog box that appears and then add the printers to monitor on that server by right-0clicking on the printers pane and from the resulting context menu select Add. A list of all the printers on that server will be displayed and those that you select from this list will then be set up for monitoring.
In order for a print server to be monitored it must have the Printer Monitoring Service installed on it.
To do this you locate the Service Installation subdirectory on the server that you installed in the previous step and run the Setup.exe program contained therein
You can install the Printer Monitoring Viewer on any of the client machines installed on the same network domain as the PUMA manager.
To do this you locate the Viewer Installation subdirectory on the server that you installed in the previous step and run the Setup.exe program contained therein
